We hear a lot on talkback radio about poor service from Air New Zealand Cancelled flights, two hour long wait times on the phone etc.
We don't hear the good stories.
Last night I was trying to book my wife and me on some flights to Christchurch and back, and I have saved up many airports. However, due to a technicality online, I couldn't do a joint booking and use my airports just for me. All those talkback calls had set me up for this so I decided to try ringing, and was ready for a fight. I put the phone on speaker mode after working through the several menus and settled in for a two hour burst of Bic Runga and Brooke Fraser, but hold on!
Straight away, there was a lady on the phone! I told her about my predicament and was just about to change gear and start complaining when she said "hang on... I reckon I can fix that for you over the phone!" - and she did!
Knew exactly where to look, pushed the right buttons, and I was JUST entering my credit card details when MY PHONE WENT FLAT!!!
What are the chances??? How am I ever going to find her again??? I was almost there!!!!
iPhones take LOOOOONG minutes to get enough charge to work again in these situations, but after a three hour long two minutes my phone burst into light and there was a voicemail. Then it rang again! My wonderful Air New Zealand lady was calling me back to finish what we'd started. Job done.
Just fantastic, real, good old, down home, truly great service from our national carrier.
It does happen, it did happen and I just wanted you to know this.
And I didn't even get her name!
Air New Zealand, your Saturday night call centre lady with a slightly British accent did you proud. Thank you.
